AbbottWMM Marathon Tours & Travel Age Group World Championship
The Volksbank-Münster-Marathon on 21 September 2025 is proud to announce it is one of the qualification races for the AbbottWMM Marathon Tours & Travel Age Group World Championships. The sixth edition of the age group world rankings cover runners aged from 40 to 80+ for men and women. The qualifying period runs from Jan. 01, 2024 until Dec. 31, 2024. The World Championships will take place in the spring/summer of 2025 with the venue and details to be announced by mid 2024.
Our orientation plan informs you about the most important checkpoints before you start and after finishing. Everything is within walking distance. We will also put up signs on site for better orientation on marathon Sunday.
The Schlossplatz is a parking lot that is practically right next to the start line. Since the construction on the "Schlossplatz" street starts early in the morning, the parking lot can only be reached via Hüfferstraße or Steinfurter Straße. Despite its size, parking options on Schlossplatz are limited.
Further parking options are the Georgskommende parking deck (access from the south via Weseler Straße possible until 8 a.m.) as well as the car parks Alter Steinweg (Alter Steinweg 21), Theater (Tibusstraße 18) and Stubengasse (Loerstraße 16 entrance) near the start and finish.
Our route basically has no climbs
Route
The Volksbank Münster Marathon is an ideal mix of city and countryside marathon. After starting at the Schlossplatz, the first 10km go through the city center before the route runs through the outer city areas of Nienberge, Roxel and Gievenbeck. The finish line is at the flagged Prinzipal Markt. The other competitions will also be held on the same route. Travel more sustainably to the marathon – offer or look for a ride
We are always looking for new ways to make our Volksbank-Münster-Marathon more sustainable. We have already achieved a lot in the last two years. Now we want to take a further step and have established a cooperation with a Dutch company – Slinger. Slinger is a kind of carpooling agency and mediates between drivers who are willing to take like-minded people to our marathon on September 8th or who are willing to provide carpoolers to drivers. With over 10,000 participants now, we can save a lot of CO2 if we manage to make better use of cars that drive to the marathon. If we combine supply and demand well, we can generate many advantages: parking will no longer be a problem, you can chat and distract yourself while on the move and maybe even have fun together with like-minded people. And at the same time, we are helping the environment enormously. And that is exactly the goal of the organizing team at Münster-Marathon e.V. We hope that many people will use this platform so that it becomes established in the long term.
